At the moment, I am composing a work which is an ephkrasis of T.S. Eliot’s The Waste Land for percussion and pianoforte. The poem is divided into five sections. My piece is not a literal translation of the poem, but follows the basic form more or less. At the same time, the setting occasionally departs from the poem for musical reasons. There are several reasons why I have experimented with this approach. First, I can discover unknown musical vocabulary influenced by the poem. (to be cotinued)
